{Wedding Blogging} 3 Real Bride Blogs You Should Read & 3 Things You Can Learn From Them
Everyday I check my Google Reader for the latest updates from my favorite wedding blogs. Here's what I've noticed about my reading habits as of late. The big blogs used to be at the top of my list, but now I find myself visiting the new ones created by real brides first. I am all about real brides these days. I think it's their fresh perspectives on things that keep me coming back.
Perhaps this shift is telling? I mean, I am building a web application targeting real brides, so naturally, I would prefer to hear more from them. However, I think we are begining to see a shift in the wedding world. According to the #engage twitter timeline, brides are not into the staged "sofa in the woods" wedding shoots. This made me smile.
In the wedding blog world, real brides don't get enough attention. It's the real brides, however, who help you track what is really going on.
While most wedding blogs feature real weddings and not staged shoots, many are presenting their top picks from a bunch of submissions, usually submitted by photographers, who themselves have chosen their top picks. Thus, you end up with the flawless, most beautiful and the most unique of the bunch. This is great, as it's supposed to be inspiring, but wouldn't you like to see the occassional not so flawless wedding? Weddings that are both budget-friendly and just plain lovely? I would. And, I did when I was a real bride.
Thus, I have begun adding more real bride blogs to my RSS feed, because I love reading about their planning progress, I love hearing their stories, and I love the suspense of the countdown. Plus, I've learned quite a bit! Here are three real bride blogs I'm reading and three things you can learn from them:
Here's what you can learn from them:
- How to blog with an authentic voice. Real bride bloggers have an authentic and candid blogging voice. Perhaps this is because the blog was created as a personal project? They don't blog with fluff. What's fluff? Something like this: "This chalkboard has me bubbling over with excitement!" or "We're head over heals in love with these cupcake wrappers!" Fluff...
- How to have an opinion. Real bride bloggers have strong opinions about their weddings! They're not afraid to put their opinions out there.
- What they really think about weddings, service providers, and wedding websites. Want to be a fly on the wall? Here's your chance!
I just created a Real Bride Blogs Digest to track all of the real brides out their blogging about their big day. If you're a real bride, I'd love to hear from you and include you on the list! If you're a wedding service provider or blogger, subscribe!
